Ojo Rojo was founded in 2015 by two adventurers who desired to bring an authentic experience of their time spent in Mexico to the streets of Bournemouth in the form of a restaurant. Having already established a long-standing successful bar in the town centre, they wanted to create something that would leave guests feeling refreshed, nourished and revived. Our creative approach began by understanding their journey and articulating this in a beautiful bespoke illustration, hand drawn by the brand agency’s talented Creative Director, Viv Griffiths.
The illustration, brand design and tone of voice came together to form their branding before the restaurant opening. Each item was given care and consideration into the style, materials and wording, to ensure they all felt part of the story. We developed a brand guide which was passed on to to local creatives, who took our brand and brought it to life in the form of paintings, sculptures and handmade crockery. The final items to produce were the menus, business cards and website, which I designed and built in a fully content managed system, to enable the client to maintain and update their content simply and regularly.
The restaurant is a highly recognisable and loved venue in the town centre and speaks to the growing number of clientele who are looking for independently run, authentic experiences. Ojo Rojo have since been shortlisted for the Bournemouth Tourism Awards and the Restaurant Design Awards.
